Telecoms & IT LawThe telecoms sector in Uganda is governed by the Communications Act and regulations made thereunder. Uganda is at the threshold of a boom in the telecoms sector as the duopoly held by MTN and Uganda Telecoms has been lifted. SIPI Law has been providing legal solutions to product development firms and is well placed to provide legal counsel on regulatory developments as well as universal access obligations and other industry specific advice. The information sector is also set to see new growth with the creation of a new ministry in charge of ICT. This development will also give further assurance to investors in the banking sector who have brought in new electronic banking products. Other telecoms value added services will also gain more consumer confidence and use when three key pieces of legislation are passed. These are the Electronic signatures bill , Computer misuse bill and the Electronic Transactions bill . Below is some of the relevant sector legislation. The lead sector institution is the Uganda Communication Commission. Contact us for more information |
